À mon arrivée vers 14:00, j’ai été accueilli par une congère de quelque 1,5 m de haut, produit par les opérations de déneigement de la (minuscule) rue sur laquelle mon chalet est situé. When I arrived around 2:00pm, I was welcomed by a snowbank about 5ft high, caused by the snow plow passing on the (very small) street where my cottage is located.
J’ai alors enjambé la congère (sans trop m’enfoncer, la neige étant tellement tapée à la longue), contourné mon chalet, et me suis dirigé vers ma remise de jardin à l’arrière, dans le but d’aller y chercher un escabeau pour grimper sur le toit du chalet. Comme la photo le montre, ce fut impossible.	Environ 90 cm à 1 m de neige devant la remise. About 36 to 40 inches of snow in front of the shed.	So I walked over top of the snowbank (without sinking in too much, as the snow has packed with time), and around my cottage, to the garden shed in the back, so I could get a ladder to climb on the cottage’s roof. That proved impossible, as this photo shows.
Le balcon latéral, lui-même placé à environ 90 cm du sol, débordait malgré cela de neige.	Voulez-vous entrer ? Pelletez ! Shovel your way in!	The side balcony was full of snow in spite of being about 36 inches above ground.
Voici une vue de l’avant du chalet, après que j’aie enlevé une bonne partie de la neige sur le coin gauche, et tout de même un peu sur le reste de la bordure avant. La pelle et la porte donnent une idée de la taille des choses. J’ai réussi à monter en me hissant sur une chaise (ici ensevelie sous la neige ; à gauche on en voit le dossier) et en me donnant un élan vers le haut.	Environ 1,6 m, soit au niveau de mes épaules, au moins. À la taille de mon chalet (7,2 m x 7,2 m environ), et compte tenu de l’inclinaison du toit, cela représente environ 50 tonnes de neige sur mon toit. Around 60 to 65 inches of snow (up to my shoulders) at least. My cottage being around 24 x 24 feet, and considering that the roof is tilted, this means around 50 tons of snow was covering it.	Now for a front view of the cottage, after I cleared the left corner of the room and removed some snow from the rest of the front. The shovel and the door give an idea of size. I managed to climb using a chair (here under the snow; we see its back on the left) and giving myself a swing up.

Une vue prise de l’intérieur, montrant le balcon latéral. Encore une fois, quelque 25 cm de neige n’étaient pas là avant mon arrivée. La tache sombre que l’on voit au centre sous la neige est le haut de la balustrade.	Moi qui voulait m’asseoir sur le balcon et me faire bronzer un peu ! :-( …and to think I wanted to sit on the balcony and tan a bit! :-(	A view from the inside, showing the side balcony. Une autre vue de la remise de jardin, prise de la chambre. La température était d’environ –3 °C à l’intérieur. Elle a grimpé à +5 °C après environ une heure de chauffage (électrique) à pleine puissance.		Another view from the garden shed, taken from the bedroom. The temperature inside was around 30 °F (–3 °C) and rose to about 40 °F (+5 °C) after around an hour of (electric) heating at full power.
Le 21 mars j’ai déneigé de 14:00 à 18:00 environ, avec une pause d’environ une heure pour me nourrir. De retour le lendemain de 08:00 à 11:00 environ, sans pause notable, j’ai enlevé la majeure partie de la neige à l’arrière et à l’avant droite, et environ 60 cm à l’avant gauche.		On March 21st, I was there from around 2pm to around 6pm, with a break of maybe an hour to eat. Back the next day, I cleared from 8am to 11am without notable pause. That got rid of most of the snow in the back and the right-hand side of the front, whereas there’s about 2 feet off the left-hand side of the front.
Ceci est le tas de neige que j’ai jetée du haut du toit sur le côté du chalet. On voit une partie du toit du balcon avant (avec la gouttiè défaite mais facilement réparable) et (en blanc) le madrier longeant le bord inférieur du toit – lui-même se trouvant à environ 2,7 m du sol.	Environ 2,1 à 2,4 m de neige tombée. About 6 to 7 feet of fallen snow.	All the snow I dropped from the rooftop built a pile that reaches almost to the lower part of my roof. Here we see part of the front balcony’s roof, with broken but easily fixable gutter, and (in white) the beam running along the bottom of the roof – itself being about 9 feet from the ground.
De l’autre côté du chalet. Le cadre noir est la porte latérale. L’arbre à l’avant-plan est un lilas. La planche à droite est la simili-balustrade de mon balcon avant, à environ 35 cm du balcon lui-même.		The other side of the cottage. The black frame is the side door. The tree in the foreground is a lilac. The plank on the right is some kind of railing/table on my front balcony, about 14 inches from the balcony itself.
En face de mon chalet se trouve une roulotte (sur fondations de blocs de ciment) qui appartenait autrefois à mon oncle (décédé en 2000) et son épouse. Je tenais l’appareil en haut de ma tête (debout dans la rue) pour prendre cette photo. Il y a environ 1,2 m de neige au sol. Le toit est relativement libre de neige, car la roulotte est aujourd’hui utilisée par mes voisins comme remise.		Across from my cottage is a trailer home (on a concrete basement) that used to belong to my uncle (who passed away in 2000) and his wife. I was holding the camera above my head (standing in the street) to take this picture. There is about 4 feet of snow on the ground. The rooftop is relatively devoid of snow, as the trailer is now used by my neighbors as a shed.
Le chalet de ma tante, à gauche du mien lorsqu’on les regarde de la rue. Les arbres ont limité quelque peu l’accumulation de neige sur son toit, mais il y en a près d’un mètre malgré cela.		My aunt’s cottage on the left of mine as seen from the street. Trees somehow limited the pileup of snow on its roof, but there’s still about 36 inches of it.
Derrière l’arbre à gauche se trouve la maison d’un nouveau voisin : elle fut construite par mon oncle/parrain et mon oncle à la roulotte, vers 1970, et grandement rénovée depuis. Le petit chemin dégagé dans la neige constitue le seul passage possible vers la rue (où je me trouvais pour prendre la photo).		Behind the tree on the left is the house of a new neighbor. It was built by my uncle/godfather and my uncle who had the trailer, around 1970. A lot of renovations have been applied to it. The cleared way in the snow is the only means to get to the street (where I was to take the picture).
La voiture que j’ai utilisée pour me rendre au chalet, une Chevrolet Aveo 2007 louée chez Bleu Pélican de la rue Forest à Montréal-Nord, une belle équipe toujours souriante !		The car I rented to get there, a 2007 Chevrolet Aveo which I rented at Bleu Pélican on Forest street in Montréal-Nord, a great team who’s always smiling!
